Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder. It gradually leads to the death of neurons , Alzheimer disease is a progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain cell to die or shrink . It destroys memory and thinking abilities. The brain communicates using a chemical Neurotransmitters. Alzheimer patients have the deficiency of Neurotransmitters. Also deposits of protein and fibre prevent the brain to send signals to other parts of brain.  This lack in communication results in Memory lapse. The mental state of patient tilts towards forgetting tendencies. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia .

This results in

  • Inability to perform daily activities
  • Inability to express the thought
  • Sharp decline in memory and association of it to different scenarios
  • Logical reasoning deterioration

Younger people may get Alzheimer’s disease , but it is less common . This represents steep increase from the estimated 5.8 million Americans age 65 and older who have Alzheimer’s dementia today. Official death certificates recorded 122,019 deaths from AD in 2018

Alzheimer’s disease facts– 6.2 million Americans age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s dementia today. This number could grow to 13.8 million by 2060.  

Even people in the age group of forties start to see the deterioration in brain capabilities. The common forgetting tendencies may be the sign of gradual creeping in of the disease and it should not be ignored. The resent researcher diagnosis other factors are also important but this factor may be not directly responsible for Alzheimer like – hearing loss, untreated depression, loneliness, sedentary lifestyle ,or social isolation .

An early diagnosis could only be initiated if the person starts finding it hard

-recall simple names ,memory loss that disrupt daily life like getting lost their familiar place

-disorganization of ideas, repeating question

-Difficulty completing familiar tasks at home ,at workplace

-difficulty in finding right words to express

-Changing mood, personality . or behavior .

-Brain scan tests such as CT Scans, MRI etc to ascertain status of brain cell damage

care and support

The deterioration continues with time. Wandering tendencies, In addition, patients suffer from dillusion and hallucinations. These are apparent in the behavioral changes the person goes through.

At present there is no cure available for Alzheimer’s disease .. Though medication help to some extent .The patients should be given utmost care

Many confuse Dementia with Alzheimer. Dementia is a later stage of Alzheimer when thinking gets impaired due to memory loss

Prevention and respite from initial hiccups

-Socialize – it enhances the brain activity. People start to think more. They become more active.

-Stressing – It is dangerous for you. Avoid it.

-Reading – compels brain to create images. Active reading is good.

-Music is gold for Alzheimer’s. It helps in removing stress.

-Games like chess involves active thinking

-Solving puzzles and learning new ideas

There are certain foods that can even help to maintain or improve the health of Alzheimer’s patient brain .Eating the right foods to keep your brain healthy like-Egg, fish , fruits .leafy greens ,nuts .pumpkin seeds ,blueberries ,whole grain ,turmeric .

Alzheimer’s patient should be kept free from stress . Healthy food and drink should be given at the right time .

Every disease brings with it pain and suffering not just to the patients but to the near and dear ones as well. A fight back with understanding and coordination to the issues confronted, will assure a positive approach.
