Rugs are smaller piece of carpet, but is movable and is much lighter .Carpets are installed used to cover complete floor.
Micron is a small measuring unit. A micron is one micrometer, used to express the diameter of wool fiber. This measuring unit is used to measure the diameter of wool fibers. The more the micron, Thicker will be the diameter of the fiber
Carpets facilitates to enhance the luxuries and comforts of the life. The Diverse varieties in Carpets presents options to choose based on the Lifestyle and Personality. From Organic material to Synthetic fibers, all containing their own advantage and benefits. Organic Material like Silk and Wool form a strong base though synthetic fabrics such as polyesters and Nylons are also used.
Wool Carpets
Wool is the most durable and expensive fiber used in Carpet manufacturing. The shearing of wool is done from Sheep. The fur of it has the ability to trap cold air in it. On burning, it gives out the smell of hair burn.
Merino Wool – sourced from Merino Sheep in Australia and Newzealand are considered to be the softest. It measures in between 15 to 25 microns.
Cashmere wool – Extremely soft and lightweight Cashmere wool comes from specific type of goat, found in India, Tibet, Iran, Iraq and China. The fibers of Cashmere wool are incredibly flexible having excellent thermal insulation.
Mohair Wool – sourced from Angora Goats. Though the wool is soft-it also becomes heavy due to secretion of oil.
Synthetic Fibers
Synthetic Fibers like Nylon and Polyester are also used.
Nylon material is first made into fiber. It is than tufted to produce Carpet face. The surface is hard compared to wool. Nylon Carpets are durable and expensive. Dyeing of Nylon allows the use of diverse color shades. It is resistant to oil and chemicals. However, in low humid condition, the issue of static electricity can be a problem. To address this, Carbonized fiber is added to the Nylon yarn.
Polyester is more affordable in comparison to Nylon. Though it is less durable with respect to Nylon. So Polyester fiber carpets are more used in Low Traffic area.
Polypropylene or Olefin is less expensive from Nylon. It resists fading from Sunlight.
Carpet Styles
These three Carpet Styles are Popular.
1- Cut Pile
2- Loop Pile
3- Cut Loop Pile
Cut Pile – In this style Carpet is sheared exposing the end of the carpet fiber. This style of pile contains twists which help the pile to stand back after crushing. The durability of the carpet relies on how tight the twists are. The heavier twist helps to create the texture which lets the wear patterns and dirt to hide. Cut Piles are more softer than that to Loop Piles.
Loop Pile – The Piles are not cut. Rather they are left as loops. Again the tight twists in the Loop helps in maintaining the durability. Tighter Loops makes it more resistant to matting and crushing.
Cut Loop Pile – Its a a combination of the Cut Pile and Loop Pile. This combination adds more variety of Surface texture and Patterns
Pile Height of Carpet
A suitable pile height along with Design and Style allows to achieve a desired aesthetics in the Room.
A short pile is of around 6.35 mm. It gives a sleek and polished look appropriate for a formal dining room environment. A medium (6.35 mm to 12.7 mm) or high pile height rug (12.7 mm to 19.05 mm) is appropriate for a living room. A Flat weave rug is flat or has no pile.
Why to buy a Carpet
Starting with a “Why” makes the brain to explore the reasons behind the desire of Owning a beautiful Carpet. This elaborates the vision and compels to find out values that one will get from the carpet installation. Along with Fiber type, Piles and Styles there are many other factors contributing to different aspects of the Carpet. A knot Density i.e number of Knots per unit area of the carpet reflects on the durability of the carpet. This is usually obtained by counting the number of knots on the backside of the Carpet,
